New rule to clarify Junior age classes (13/10/06)
The Board of Motorcycling Australia in conjunction with MA's Junior Development Commission has introduced a new rule relating to junior motorcycling for 2007 and beyond. The rule relates to the age of junior competitors and aims to clear up some existing confusion surrounding the ages and classes that junior riders may compete in. The new rule to be included in the 2007 Manual of Motorcycle Sport is as follows:
A junior rider's age on January 1 will determine his/her age for competition that year. However, a rider may move to the next higher class when he/she becomes eligible to do so at any time during the year, but once a rider moves to the higher age class in any competition, he/she may not move back to the lower age class. Points earned in a lower class will not transfer to the higher class. This rule will apply to all riders up to and including 16 year olds.
What this means is that every rider will have the opportunity to ride the one capacity bike for an entire year, unless they opt to move up in class. The decision of whether to go up a class or not is now the choice of each individual rider, and the points earned in a lower class will not carrying to the class above. The rule will certainly clarify any queries relating to ages and competing in 'series' events, as well as age qualification for the Australian Junior MX Championships. The rule will come into effect from 1 January 2007.
